Teething?

Asher and I paid a visit to my friend Jennifer and her 9-month-old baby Cielle this morning, and Asher had a dreadful first. Asher BIT the baby! He bit her!! I was shocked and appalled. He has never bitten anyone (besides me) before, and he is usually quite gentle with babies. For some reason today he was acting weirded-out and scared by cute little Cielle. He left marks! I hope this is the one and only episode we ever have with Asher biting anyone. If this happens again, I am buying a muzzle because my child will NOT be a biter.

Pirates

Last weekend was the opening (and closing) of The Pirates of Penzance at Goleta Valley Junior High. We had an amazing live orchestra and beautiful costumes. Somehow the show turned out very well, despite some of the student's best efforts at sabotage during the rehearsal process. I have come to the conclusion that directing Junior High kids is HARD even if they are very talented... and I'd like to give a shout out to all the parents out there who raise their kids to respect people in general. It is especially wonderful when students respect and listen to their teachers and directors, or anyone else who is only trying to help them without getting much in return.

The show was surprisingly funny and the kids sang well and in beautiful harmony with one another. However, I just don't know if I will ever consent to direct Junior High School theater again. I think these pirates stole five years from my life span. Bless their hearts.

Fashion '05

I have been hording fashion magazines for the last couple years. Most of them are In Style magazines, and I keep them around for inspiration. (In Style magazines are chock full of couture dresses and other beautifully designed clothes.)
Whenever I design costumes for a show, I leaf through these magazines to see if they can boost my creativity. They often do. I also hope to eventually copy some of the styles for my own personal use... and very rarely I use pictures from In Style to design clothing for others.

However, these magazines are taking up too much room. I decided it was time for them to go... but not before ripping out pages of particularly inspiring gowns, hairstyles, etc. I have ripped out more pictures from 2005 than any other year. This is how I have come to the conclusion that 2005 was a very good year for fashion.
Yet another reason for us to live in 2005 forever.

An Inconvenient Zombie

Probably owing to the P&P&Zombies discovery, I had a disturbing dream two nights ago. I was turned into a zombie. Someone came and ate my brains, and a short time later I joined the zombie forces. In my dream (or shall I say NIGHTMARE) Al Gore was president. I walked right into the oval office and ate Al Gore's brains. It was really easy, and totally gross. Before I woke up, everyone on planet Earth had been turned into a zombie. I didn't feel that nervous about it though, because I was part of the winning team.

I just get weirder and weirder, don't I?

Speaking of zombies, I don't think Asher napped yesterday. My first clue was that he slept until 9:45am this morning.

Zombies

A few days ago I tried to go to the library with Asher but it was closed. (Silly Jamie, how could you forget about Cesar Chavez Day??) So we walked across the street to the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Asher loved it, but we kept running into homeless people. They were in every nook and cranny of that place! I think we saw three sleeping folks and at least three just sitting around. While running errands the same day I saw a record amount of homeless people in the afternoon. (In the morning State Street has a ratio of about 80% homeless to 20% other, but by afternoon the ratio is usually down to 5% homeless.)

I feel sorry for the homeless. I try to give them food and change whenever I can. Of course, I am also frightened by most homeless people too. There is something about them that just doesn't seem quite safe or consistent. You know, I feel like they might change from smiling and grateful human beings into cussing, scary monsters. They also have pretty bad hygiene, which is another reason I keep my rendezvouses with them on the short side. This might seem cruel, but a lot of times homeless people remind me of zombies.

Which reminds me, my husband discovered a terrible book. It is another remake of Pride and Prejudice, and this time they have really gone too far.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."?!?

I won!

I didn't want to post until after April Fools Day just in case it was a twisted joke, but yesterday I won a cute little onesie from Rachelli! The Rachelli blog had a contest, and I was randomly chosen. I am really excited to get my cute little Seymour in the mail.

No foolin'

I really don't celebrate April Fool's day, so this is not a joke... just a handy household tip.

These dryer sheets don't really do much in the dryer, but they are really great air fresheners! I have a package of lavender sheets open by the diaper pail in Asher's room and it smells like a garden in there.
